I always joke that I wrote this song for The Muppet Show. I came up with the chorus while walking on a sunny summer day in Manhattan, and the melody was so damn bouncy and happy I immediately imagined Kermit and friends singing it. I dreamed what it would be like to sing with The Muppets and came up with the scenario of Kermit and I vying for Miss Piggy’s affections, while the other characters looked on. By the end everyone would be singing and bopping along. The rap section was written on the subway (to many strange looks from straphangers), where I make references to Casablanca, Th Pirates Of Penzance, and Rebecca Prichard’s incredible play “Yard Gal”, while trying to talk my way into a lady’s heart. Extra points if you can find all three of them. |
